Midt i Faaborg står et klokketårn tilbage fra byens første kirke, Skt. Nikolaj kirke. Da kirken fra ca. 1250 blev revet ned efter Reformationen i 1536, lod man klokketårnet stå. Det var opført noget senere end kirken og derfor næppe så vedligeholdelseskrævende. Desuden fungerede det som sømærke for sejlende. I dag fungerer klokketårnet stadig som klokketårn for Faaborgs sognekirke, Helligåndskirken, som erstattede Skt. Nikolaj kirke som sognekirke, da den blev revet ned.
Et besøg i klokketårnet byder på muligheden for at se middelalderbygningens fantastiske konstruktioner på nært hold med hvælvede lofter og store egetræskonstruktioner, der løfter tårnet til en højde af 31 meter. Hvis man tager turen til toppen af tårnet belønnes man med muligheden for en fantastisk udsigt ud over Faaborg og Øhavet.
I Klokketårnet findes 2 klokker samt et klokkespil med 38 klokker.
Dette klokkespil, blev sat ind i tårnet så sent som i 1960.
In the middle of Faaborg, a bell tower stands back from the city's first church, Skt. Nikolaj church. The church from approx. 1250 was demolished after the Reformation in 1536, one allowed the bell tower to stand. The bell tower was built in the late 1400s. Today, the bell tower still functions as a bell tower for the Faaborg parish church, the Church of the Holy Spirit, which replaced St. Nikolai church as a parish church when it was demolished.
A visit to the bell tower offers the opportunity to see the medieval building's stunning structures up close with vaulted ceilings and large oak structures that lift the tower to a height of 31 meters.
In the Bell Tower there are 2 bells as well as a carillon with 38 bells.
The carillon was put into the tower as late as 1960.
If you take the trip to the top of the tower you are rewarded with the opportunity for a fantastic view over Faaborg and the archipelago.
