Designed by D Andrew Rowe in 1998 this is 1 of 1000 cycle mileposts designed to celebrate the millennium. This one is located at the Strand Leisure Park in Gillingham and is located on the banks of the River Medway. This cycle path milepost follows cycle path #1.
The marker is painted black with a gold coloured chain on the main support. The chain represents Chatham's Maritime and Naval connections.
Route 1 is an incredible long-distance cycle adventure stretching 1,695 miles from Dover on the Kent coast to the Shetland Islands in Scotland.
The mile markers indicate the distance westbound as:
Chatham Maritime - 2 miles
Chatham - 2 3/4 Miles
Heading Eastbound the sign indicates that:
Lower Rainham - 3 Miles
Upchurch - 5 Miles
