Der Brunnen ist ein Geschenk von Emder Bürgern zum Dienstjubiläums Fürbringers. Er wurde von Georg entworfen und ausgeführt, der auch das verlorenen gegangene Kaiser-Wilhelm-Denkmal und die Von-Stephan-Büste in Emden geschaffen hat. Der Brunnen stand zunächst an der Bonesse südlich des Falderndelfts. 1956 wurde er dort abgebaut und im Bauhof gelagert. 1984 wurde der Brunnen im Stadtgarten, dem ursprünglich für das Denkmal geplanten Standort, wieder aufgestellt."
