Located in the City of Punta Gorda's Ponce de Leon Park are numerous historical markers. This marker is one of two that reference Ponce de Leon.

Marker Text:

"And believing that this land was an island, they named it La Florida, because it had a very beautiful view of many and cool woodlands, and because, moreover, they discovered it in the time of the Feast of the Flowers (Pascua Florida) Juan Ponce wished to conform in the name to these two reasons."
Antonio de Herrera
