The city hall in Odense, Denmark is known to everyone. But if you look closely at the painting and shield above the entrance you will find a little hole very few know of. And there's a forgotten story behind the strange hole in the shield.

English: Saint Canute was the danish king killed in Odense in 1086 during a viking riot. He became a saint and patron of the city. In 1944, during the second world war, he was "wounded" again by German troops under the occupation of Denmark. If you look closely you can see a bullet hole under his right knee. On the 19th of september 1944 german troops raided the police station in the city hall. One shot struck Saint Canutes knee and was later kept in the shield as a reminder of the incident and the occupation.
