This little traveler's shell was about 12" by 8", fairly clean, and in good condition. The turtle was doing just fine by itself while crossing, having reached the center of the highway, but it's busy here and there was no need to take any chances. It didn't completely pull its head into safety, and was patient enough to be lifted and carried for five seconds by the "handles" at the back of its shell. Having safely been transported to the east side of the road, off it went into the brush, maybe to find a friend and make more turtles.
