Depicted sandstone statue of Wenceslaus I., Duke of Bohemia (Václav I., kníže ceský), a central object of the memorial dedicated to the 20-year existence of the Czechoslovakia, can be found close to the St. Wenceslaus church in Votice.
Wenceslaus is depicted standing, with a spear in his right hand and a shield with Premyslid eagle standing at his feet. He is dressed in medieval ring armor, high boots, a metal helmet on his head and is wrapped in a cloak.
The design of the monument was made by sculptor Cenek Vosmík as early as 1922, it was not realized until 1937. The foundation stone from the Blaník mountain with a memorial deed was laid and consecrated a year earlier. The sculptural group was carved by Josef Kysela from Mšeno sandstone. The ceremonial unveiling was attended by the Prime Minister Dr. Milan Hodža and consecrated by General and Bishop Metodej Kubán. The memorial dedicated to the 20-year existence of the Czechoslovakia consists of a statue of St. Wenceslas in life-size, below it is a relief of Blaník knights., separated into two parts by the plinth of the statue of St. Wenceslas. In addition to the inscription "Saint Wenceslas, Duke of the Czech lands, do not let us or future people die", there are also the names of government politicians from 1918 and 1937.
Wenceslaus I / Saint Wenceslaus (Czech: Svatý Václav; ca. 907 – September 28, 935), Wenceslas I, or Vaclav the Good was the duke (kníže) of Bohemia from 921 until his assassination in 935, in a plot by his brother, Boleslav the Cruel. His martyrdom, and the popularity of several biographies, quickly gave rise to a reputation for heroic goodness, resulting in his being elevated to sainthood, posthumously declared king, and seen as the patron saint of the Czech state. He is the subject of "Good King Wenceslas", a Saint Stephen's Day carol. [wiki]
