The trees here look to be poplar trees of some kind, and that the owl stands among a row of those trees suggest that this was also a poplar before Mother Nature took care of it, allowing someone to step in to create this remarkable piece of artwork.
The owl looks to be the classic Great Horned Owl, standing between two and three feet tall. A catchy feature is that the owl's eye sockets were sculpted to accommodate two good-sized apples, and properly placed, they give the owl the appearance of being alert and watchful. Unfortunately, there is no obvious signature for us to give the artist the credit they richly deserve.
