Le nom de Moulin Neuf est resté mais cela fait longtemps, bien longtemps qu'il n'y a plus de moulin ici.

Il y a peu de temps encore, à part quelques pierre, on ne pouvait rien voir.

Le comité du patrimoine manosquin a essayé de remettre en valeur ce lieu, en restaurant quelques murs, en reconstruisant la roue à aube et en y amenant de l'eau.

Tous les travaux de mise en valeur du patrimoine n'est pas fini mais on peut voir cette partie du patrimoine de la ville.

Sur place, une affiche nous informe :

Le Moulin Neuf, moulin a farine de Manosque a été construit par la Communauté de Manosque quand elle recouvrait le droit de moudre, jusqu’alors privilège des seigneurs de Manosque, les Hospitaliers de Saint Jean de Jérusalem dans leur moulin de Palais.

Le Moulin Neuf tournera en 1510 et l’eau y coule toujours !

ll prit le nom de Moulin Neuf, par rapport aux autres moulins qui existaient alors sur la commune. Il ouvrait une aire de prospérité pour les manosquins.

Il est alimenté par le canal de La Brillanne, avec aujourd’hui uniquement l’eau de La Durance.

Ce vestige était voué a disparaître. Le Comité du Patrimolne Manosquin a sauvé ce qu’il en reste, suffisamment pour y installer de nouveau une roue comme témoignage du passé industriel artisanal et rural. ‘

ll a été le dernier des 4 moulins à farine, à eau, de Manosque et le dernier des 6 moulins alimentés par le canal de La Brillanne. '

L’utilité de l’eau devint uniquement agricole, comme aujourd’hui.

Depuis sa création il a suivi les évolutions techniques au fil du temps.

lnstallée en 1839 la roue a augets, verticale d’environ 4 m de diamètre et 1 m de large, la première en Provence de cette dimension, lui donnera une plus grande puissance.

La martelière d’alimentation en eau de la roue est encore visible, les paliers de l’époque étaient restés en place, mais inutilisables, la technique ayant changé. Pour installer les nouveaux paliers, nous avons démonté les anciens pour les installer a leur place.

Après la roue, au début du XXe c’est une turbine qui donna la force de moudre.

A l’arrivée de l’électricité, l’eau fut abandonnée et de fait plus aucune roue ne tournait le long du canal sur les cinq moulins qu’il alimentait.

Une autre minoterie « électrique », située impasse des Capucins vint le concurrencer.

Elle fut aussi détruite par un incendie en 1970.

Le Moulin Neuf détruit en 1990 lui aussi par un incendie a été le dernier moulin a farine de Manosque.

Maintenant une roue de moulin tournera a nouveau sur le canal de La Brillanne !
