In 1938, the synagogue in Göttingen burned down on this spot during the Reich Progrom Night.
The synagogue memorial was erected here in 1973. 86 steel triangles that are getting smaller and smaller are stacked on top of each other in a pyramid shape at a height of 5.60 m on several T-beams. By rotating each triangle, the Jewish Star of David is continuously created and the entire work of art looks like a flame from the side.

Inside script from the Bible (Jesaia 54,10):
[DE]
Berge werden weichen und Hügel wanken,
Aber meine Gnade wird von dir nicht weichen.
[EN]
Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken

The artist Coorado Cagli has Jewish roots and went into exile in the USA. There he joined the army and returned to Europe as a soldier, where he fought against fascism and helped liberate the Buchenwald concentration camp.
