"The Kid in the White Bucks", Pat Boone himself, was a student here when the school was still North Texas State College, and he was initiated into Kappa Alpha in 1955. Professional golfer, Don January, was initiated two years earlier. The order has a Facebook page
here, and while it has its share of activity, there's really nothing in the way of history.
The fraternity itself was established in 1865 at Washington College -- now Washington and Lee University -- in Lexington, VA, and today, it has well over a hundred chapters. Its motto is "Dieu et les Dames" -- French for "God and the Ladies", and their flag has bars of crimson, white, and old gold, with a crimson cross at the center. Robert E. Lee himself has been referenced as a spiritual mentor, and while Kappa Alpha as an organization has had its share of hazing stunts that resulted in disciplinary action, there have been the occasional displays of poorer judgment that warranted stronger action. This particular chapter was shut down in 2001 over slurs and the waving of a Confederate battle flag, a five-year hiatus that effectively turned over its roster. The chapter house itself is over 7,200 square feet, constructed in 2001, the year they found themselves in hot water here, and they appear to have behaved themselves since then.
