Daren Fagan lives in nearby Highland Village, and much of his work -- some gracing his front yard -- is drawn from scrap and recycled metal. After being commissioned to do this piece, he drew inspiration from the purple bird on the City of Lewisville's emblem (which is itself inspired by the area's purple martins), as well as the flora and colors from across the street in Wayne Ferguson Plaza. "Earth and Beyond" was dedicated on Saturday, April 14, 2018, as part of the city's annual ColorPalooza festival, and a video of its unveiling and its motion is available at the link below. It stands 19' tall and 10' wide, weighing nine hundred pounds, on an 8' tall Corten base decorated with four glass mosaic tiles. Those tiles were a collaboration between Fagen and the Visual Art League, with some public contributions, and the base will oxidize over time to add natural reds, oranges, and yellows to the piece. The stainless steel leaves move independently of each other, and the sculpture is topped by a fixed 5' tall purple bud.

A bronze plaque is in front of the sculpture, listing its major donor-sponsors -- the Greater Lewisville Arts Alliance and the Lakeside Arts Foundation were the key players -- with a few other credits, and it reads:
