Off of Clarks Creek Road, the stacked stone ruins of an iron furnace can be found.

Per the TN historical marker (Waymark WM5Z2R): Clarksville Iron Furnace. The stone stack was built in 1833 by Montgomery Stuart, Elijah Embree and Edward West. The ore used was hauled in wagons across the mountain from the mines in Bumpass Cove. The iron produced was used locally and also was flat-boated down the river as far as Alabama. Operations ceased in 1844.
The below Wikipedia entry states: Production ended abruptly in 1844 when the millrace that channeled water to the waterwheel failed, causing water to spill onto the furnace site. The resulting flood extinguished the fire in the furnace and chilled the material that was being smelted at the time.
Parking is nearby N36 08.964, W082 31.688 to cross a small stream.
