This pillar is situated on the summit area of the 183 metre Cairnconon Hill, a tree and gorse covered hillock which lies four miles to the north-west of the Angus coastal town of Arbroath. The hill is prominent due to an antenna that sits on the summit with the pillar a few yards to the north-east of this almost lost in an abundance of gorse that adorns the summit area. Due to the surrounding foliage, the views are limited, but the pillar, seldom visited, is in good condition.

STEEPNESS: A short moderately arduous climb from the north-east.

TERRAIN: Rough grass and pastureland leading to narrow paths through the gorse bushes.

ACCESSIBILITY: The shortest route is from the minor road that runs across the north-eastern flank of the hill. A gate offers access to the west of the wood that runs up to the summit which is around two hundred yards from the road.

NAVIGATION: The pillar is hard to locate amidst the gorse, but lies generally east-north-east a few yards from the antenna in a small clearing.

DANGER: Uneven ground within the wood and around the summit area.

Type of Trigpoint: Triangulation Pillar
