In de jaren zestig van de vorige eeuw heeft de gemeente Capelle destijds besloten om een groenstrook aan te leggen tussen de 's Gravenweg en de Abraham van Rijckevorselweg. Doel hiervan was een buffer te vormen voor de hoge flats, die in de volksmond bekend staan als de Chinese Muur. Boeren hebben van het gebied matig gebruik gemaakt, omdat het een drassig gebied is. Hierdoor zijn kleine kavels ontstaan die vaak in beslag genomen werden door braamstruiken en brandnetels.
Vrijwilligers hebben in de loop der tijd een schitterende Heemtuin van deze kavel gemaakt, met een groot paden-stelsel van houtsnippers. De heemtuin is ongeveer een hectare groot en bestaat uit kleine kavels die tussen de sloten liggen. Bijzondere planten, bomen, insecten en vooral paddenstoelen hebben de Heemtuin Capelle internationale bekendheid gegeven. In de heemtuin zijn in de herfst veel paddenstoelen te zien. Zoveel zelfs dat de Heemtuin een belangrijke plaats is geworden voor mycologen. In 2006 werd voor het eerst de zeldzame Inktviszwam in de Heemtuin gevonden. De inktviszwam is zeldzaam en staat op de Rode Lijst (GE) . De melding was voldoende om tientallen mycologen naar de Heemtuin te krijgen en allen spraken hun bewondering uit over de variatie aan paddenstoelen in de Heemtuin (inmiddels ruim 90 verschillende soorten waargenomen). De paden van houtsnippers van verschillende bomen en de vele stronken die er liggen vormen een goede voedingsbodem voor de planten en paddenstoelen.
De heemtuin is altijd open en is gratis toegankelijk.

In the sixties of the last century, the municipality of Capelle decided at the time to create a green strip between 's Gravenweg and Abraham van Rijckevorselweg. The purpose of this was to form a buffer for the high flats, popularly known as the Great Wall of China. Farmers have made moderate use of the area as it is a swampy area. This has resulted in small lots that were often occupied by brambles and nettles.
Over time, volunteers have turned this lot into a beautiful Arboretum, with a large path system of wood chips. The botanical garden is approximately one hectare in size and consists of small lots located between the ditches. Special plants, trees, insects and especially mushrooms have given the Heemtuin Capelle international fame. Many mushrooms can be seen in the botanical garden in autumn. So much so that the Arboretum has become an important place for mycologists. The rare Squid mushroom was first found in the Heemtuin in 2006. The squid fungus is rare and is on the Red List (GE). The report was sufficient to get dozens of mycologists to the Arboretum and all expressed their admiration about the variety of mushrooms in the Arboretum (more than 90 different species have now been observed). The paths of wood chips from different trees and the many stumps that lie there are a good breeding ground for the plants and mushrooms.
The Arboretum is always open and is free.
