The Inscription on the Plaque presents the following info:

"SPIRIT STONE

Venerated by the Menominee Indians of the Algonquian Nation here before their removal to a reservation on the Wolf River, Wisconsin in 1864

Presented by
Mrs. Jospeh Zietz
Great-Granddaughter of
Marie Antoinette Chevallier
Who was known as "Queen Marinette."

This excerpt is from the book "HISTORY OF THE CITY OF MENOMINEE, MICHIGAN 1883-1983":

"The Spirit Stone at the Michigan State Tourist information Center was first located at White Rapids where the Indians would come on their journeys to kiss it or touch it or to give it tobacco thinking it had supernatural powers. The Spirit Stone shows you a face if you know how to look at it, a glance will not do. The Indians transported the stone to the yard of Charles McLeod in the West End (Menominee) near the Hattie Street Bridge where it remained for many years until it was given to Mrs. Joseph Zietz, the granddaughter of Charles McLeod in Marinette. Later Mrs. Zeitz presented it to the Michigan Tourist Lodge here in Menominee where it still stands."
