Flower Mound is a suburb in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, with nearly a hundred thousand people. Once rural, Flower Mound and the surrounding towns have grown considerably in the last two decades, and this development appears to be aimed at those who like to live away from they city, but who would prefer to get around on foot and have their conveniences nearby. As of this posting (10/2020), The River Walk at Central Park is mostly housing around park space, a town clock, outdoor sculpture, and a man-made canal and waterfall. A hospital is at the north end, a wedding chapel and event center were opened in 2020, and in between will be shops and dining.
The "hip" and "with it" crowd that live here in Flower Mound really didn't quite get the works of art placed here by the developer, Centurion American. Given the name of the city, the abstract sculptures that have been placed all have a floral theme to them. "Chompy" has drawn the most negative comments, while these three pinwheels are considerably more mainstream and therefore acceptable. They, too, have a story, in that each evokes area flora, the Winecup, the Orange Flameflower, and the Purple Coneflower. They each stand about twenty-five to thirty feet tall, and while they spin when the wind picks up, they do not rotate on their axes.
