[FIN] Vuonna 1903 Frederic von Rettig lahjoitti kaupungille kirjastotalon, Bibliothecan, jonka suunnitteli Rettigin vävy Karl August Wrede.

Rakennuksia yhdistää käytävä, jonka varrella on lehtisali. Kirjaston huoneistoala on yhteensä noin 8 500 m².

[EN] In 1903, Frederic von Rettig donated to the city a library building, the Bibliotheca, designed by Rettig's son-in-law Karl August Wrede. The building represents the Dutch Late Renaissance and is modeled on the Stockholm Knights' Hall. In addition to the library building, Rettig donated a collection of 10,000 books to the townspeople.

Over time, the library building became impractical and the lack of space bothered again. In 2003, the City Council decided to build a new main library building in the same block. The architectural firm JKMM, which had previously won the design competition, had been selected as the designer and Asmo Jaaksi as the chief architect. The new main library opened in 2007. The main library consists of three buildings: the old and new library buildings The buildings are connected by a corridor with a newspaper room. The total area available space of the library is about 8,500 m².
