Avec Sabine de Freitas, directrice des chantiers, Corinne Tual est cogérante de Muro dell’Arte, une entreprise spécialiste de création et de restauration du patrimoine mural.
Une semaine de réalisation
Avant de réaliser le sgraffito sur le mur de l’église Saint-Benoît, le généreux donateur de la commune qui a imaginé le projet avait demandé l’accord du conseil municipal, des prêtres de la paroisse et contacté la commission d’art sacré.
Après deux mois d’étude en amont, Corinne Tual, fresquiste et spécialiste de cette technique depuis plus de 25 ans, a passé une semaine à réaliser l’œuvre, aidée d’Alejandro Cadena, maçon du patrimoine, et d’Anne Gervais, en formation.
Et au moment venu, il a fallu s’adapter à la météo : le sgraffito est effectué au fur et à mesure sur un enduit suffisamment frais. En cas de forte chaleur, cela suppose parfois de ne pas prendre de pause, de ne pas manger : « Aucun repos jusqu’à ce que ce soit fini », précise Corinne Tual, qui se met ainsi « au service du matériau ». Première œuvre de ce genre réalisée en France sur le mur d’une église, le sgraffito de Saint-Benoît ornera l’édifice religieux pendant plusieurs centaines d’années."

A week of work

And when the time came, it was necessary to adapt to the weather: the sgraffito is made progressively on a sufficiently fresh plaster. In case of strong heat, it sometimes means not taking a break, not eating: "No rest until it's finished," says Corinne Tual, who thus puts herself "at the service of the material". The first work of this kind made in France on the wall of a church, the sgraffito of Saint-Benoît will decorate the religious building for several hundred years".
