This hourglass can be spottet at the front of the gatehouse to the firts general cemetery of Zeist.
The Old General Cemetery was laid out in a formal style in 1829, so in a pattern of straight paths. A gatehouse was also erected during construction. One part was intended for a gravedigger's house and the other part was furnished as a bar house and as a storage place for tools. In 1884 the passage was raised and the gatehouse got its current, monumental character in neoclassical style.
