Soon a new stele in homage to all the Resistance fighters, at the Pointe du Roc.
The active witnesses of contemporary history disappearing and the youth being little aware of the history of the Resistance, the City of Granville in collaboration with the Fondation des Français Libres has decided to erect a new monument in homage to the Resistance fighters of the France Libre and Granville and its surroundings at Pointe du Roc, near the German gun battery, the semaphore and the GR 223 hiking trail.

The Appeal of June 18, 1940, which is commemorated each year by the associations of the Resistance outside and inside on the French Free roundabout at Pointe du Roc in Granville - where traffic must be interrupted and diverted - can now be held in an easily accessible place of memory, while reminding everyone of the history of the country at both national and local level.

The Cross of Lorraine as a rallying emblem for the Resistance
Assisted by the Fondation de la France Libre, the City of Granville, which is the contracting authority for this project, called on the artist sculptor, Marc Dupard, who will develop a metal sculpture recalling the memory of the young volunteers who left , from Granville towards the Channel Islands on the two fishing boats Gloire de Dieu and La Mouette, to join the Free French Forces rallied to General de Gaulle, between 25 and 28 June 1940. Made of Corten steel, this monument will represent the sail of the two rigs with in the center as a mast, the contours of the Cross of Lorraine, the rallying emblem of the Resistance, through which the Channel Islands can be seen. Two desks will accompany this sculpture and will relate all the key notions of history to young and future generations, to whom the duty of memory is imposed in recognition of all the actions carried out by the Resistance.

Call to the population to share and or complete the list of Resistance fighters who served under the orders of Maurice Marland

Maurice Marland - Resistance member from the start and outstanding and respected personality of the city of Granville - had recruited after June 1940 many young people who served under his orders. Michel LEBLOND, delegate from La Manche for the Fondation de la France Libre, worked alongside the members of the Maurice Marland Memorial Committee to ensure the historical authenticity of the texts and to establish the list of names of Resistance fighters, which may be exhaustive. In this perspective, Michel LEBLOND wishes to collect the observations of the population with a view to possibly supplementing it.

Les témoins actifs de l’histoire contemporaine disparaissant et la jeunesse étant peu au fait de l’histoire de la Résistance, la Ville de Granville en collaboration avec la Fondation des Français Libres a décidé d’élever un nouveau monument en hommage aux Résistants de la France Libre et de Granville et ses environs à la Pointe du Roc, à proximité de la batterie de tir allemande, du sémaphore et du sentier de randonnée GR 223.

La Croix de Lorraine comme emblème de ralliement de la Résistance
Assistée de la Fondation de la France Libre, la Ville de Granville, qui est maître d’ouvrage de ce projet, a fait appel à l’artiste sculpteur, Marc Dupard, lequel va élaborer une sculpture en métal rappelant la mémoire des jeunes volontaires partis,de Granville en direction des îles anglo-normandes sur les deux bateaux de pêche la Gloire de Dieu et La Mouette, pour rejoindre les Forces Françaises Libres ralliées au Général de Gaulle, entre le 25 et le 28 juin 1940. Réalisé en acier Corten, ce monument représentera la voile des deux gréements avec au centre en guise de mât, les contours de la Croix de Lorraine, emblème de ralliement de la Résistance, à travers laquelle pourront être vues les îles anglo-normandes. Deux pupitres viendront accompagner cette sculpture et relateront toutes les notions clefs de l’Histoire aux jeunes et futures générations, auxquelles le devoir de mémoire s’impose en reconnaissance de toutes les actions menées par la Résistance.

Appel à la population pour partager et ou compléter la liste des Résistants ayant servi sous les ordres de Maurice Marland

Maurice Marland – Résistant de la première heure et personnalité marquante et respectée de la cité de Granville – avait recruté après juin 1940 de nombreux jeunes ayant servi sous ses ordres. Michel LEBLOND, délégué de la Manche pour la Fondation de la France Libre, a travaillé aux côtés des membres du Comité du Souvenir Maurice Marland afin d’assurer l’authenticité historiques des textes et d’établir la liste des noms des Résistants, laquelle ne pouvant être exhaustive. Dans cette perspective, Michel LEBLOND souhaite recueillir les observations de la population en vue, éventuellement de la compléter.
