C'est à l'occasion du réaménagement du quartier du Verdurier, que ce bâtiment, bâti par Louis-Charles-Henri Geay, architecte des P.T.T., a vu le jour en 1931.

L'immeuble de la poste est, par le traitement architectural de ses
façades et par la géométrisation des formes adoptées, typique de la sobriété du style Art déco. Dans ce contexte, la brique est utilisée comme un matériau traditionnel dans un souci esthétique résolument moderne. Le décor est uniquement assuré par la qualité des proportions architecturales, le jeu sur les couleurs (opposition entre le parement de briques claires et les bandeaux blancs surlignant les travées des baies) et l’appareillage des briques à l’origine de textures diverses (posées en diagonale, en damiers et en denticules). La façade principale sur cinq niveaux est construite en retrait et comporte, autour d’une cour, deux pavillons d’angle. Une façade en béton ferme la cour. Elle est rythmée par deux portails, de larges baies rectangulaires, où s’insèrent des grilles ouvragées aux motifs géométriques (portant le signe PTT), et le contraste entre béton blanc et béton granité marron. Les pignons animent cette façade et contrastent par leur verticalité. La présence d’avant-corps d’angle sur encorbellement, dominant la terrasse, terminés par des petits pignons aveugles à redents, attire l’œil du passant vers le ciel.

En 2002, l’immeuble a été transformé en résidence sans que l’aspect extérieur n’ait été modifié. Il est labellisé Patrimoine du XXe siècle par arrêté du 25 mars 2002.

It was during the redevelopment of the Verdurier district that this building, built by Henry Geay, architect of the P.T.T., saw the light of day in 1931.

The post office building is, by the architectural treatment of its facades and by the geometrization of the shapes adopted, typical of the sobriety of the Art Deco style. In this context, brick is used as a traditional material for a resolutely modern aesthetic concern. The decor is only ensured by the quality of the architectural proportions, the play on colors (opposition between the facing of light bricks and the white bands highlighting the bays of the bays) and the matching of the bricks at the origin of various textures (laid diagonal, checkered and dentil). The main five-storey facade is set back and has two corner pavilions around a courtyard. A concrete facade closes the courtyard. It is punctuated by two portals, large rectangular bays, into which are inserted ornate gates with geometric patterns (bearing the PTT sign), and the contrast between white concrete and brown granite concrete. The gables animate this facade and contrast by their verticality. The presence of a cantilevered cantilever, dominating the terrace, terminated by small blind stepped gables, draws the eye of the passer-by to the sky.

In 2002, the building was transformed into a residence without any changes to the exterior. It is labeled Heritage of the 20th century by decree of March 25, 2002.
