Zululand Lodge is a privately owned tented lodge on the 800-hectare Greater uKuwela Wildlife Conservancy located in the heart of the Elephant Coast and northern KwaZulu Natal. Situated just north of Hluhluwe town and bordering Phinda Game Reserve, the lodge is built on a slope offering breathtaking views of the Msinene River valley and surrounding bushveld.
?
The Lodge has an ideal location if you want to explore the region, with easy access on good roads, and plenty of variety in local attractions.
The Msinene River is a tributary to the World Heritage iSimangaliso Wetland Park and our conservancy is close to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, Mkuzi Game Reserves and Lake St Lucia. The closest town is Hluhluwe (20km) away while King Shaka International Airport (Durban) is only 3 hours south (270km) of us.

The Lodge:
The lodge offers 9 tastefully decorated en-suite permanent canvas tents sleeping up to 18 people. Our elegantly furnished central lodge allows you to put up your feet and relax in the open-air cushioned lounge. Enjoy tasty home-made meals in the spacious dining area while catching up on the days events with fellow guests. Venture upstairs to our viewing deck which offers uninterrupted views, boasting spectacular sunsets while enjoying a sundowner.

Activities:
Guided Giraffe Walk:
We have a very special activity on our reserve. A guided giraffe walk. We spend our walk tracking the giraffe on our reserve with opportunties to get close to these tall beautiful animals. ±1h30 R450 per person including VAT. Minimum 2 guests, depart from the lodge.

Standard locally guided bush walks give you the opportunity to observe the abundant birdlife along the Msinene River and try spot some of the plains game that roam free on our reserve - including the shy Nyala antelope. Alternatively you can take a short drive to one of the nearby Big 5 Game Reserves for a more adventurous experience.

Sustainability:
The eco-friendly lodge is easily accessible by sedan car with only +/- 5km of gravel road to traverse. The lodge was designed and built from the ground up as an environmentally sustainable project. We have a solar power system with LED lighting throughout camp and are completely off the grid. Rainwater is collected in tanks and used for cleaning, the grounds irrigation and the small waterhole in front of the lodge. Wastewater is treated in a double septic tank system and we provide only biodegradable bathroom soaps. The lodge is staffed 90% from the local community and we have an in-house staff training and development program.

The Conservancy:
The conservancy land was originally used for mixed cattle and game farming but is being rehabilitated for wildlife conservation. This ongoing project includes soil erosion control, reintroduction of wildlife species to the area, fence removal and anti-poaching efforts. We are very proud of our resident leopard population and the hippo pods.

Welcome:
Our friendly and welcoming staff are on hand to make your stay most enjoyable, whilst giving you the privacy to unwind and listen to the natural sounds of the African bush. Whether you are a couple looking for a tranquil break away to the wilderness, keen birders or a family wanting to enjoy quality time together, Zululand Lodge is the ideal getaway for you.
