The U.S.S. Ingraham (DD-444), a Gleaves-class destroyer, was escorting a convoy crossing the North Atlantic. On the night of August 22, 1944, while in heavy fog, the ship collided with the oil tanker Chemung off the coast of Nova Scotia.
