Execution for the words of ROTA - Zielonka, Poland - World War II Memorials / Monuments on Waymarking.com

[EN] The monument commemorates the events of November 11, 1939, from the beginning of Nazi occupation. Several scouts hung in Zielonka posters with words of "ROTA" (a poem, patriotic hymn song) by Maria Konopnicka. In retaliation the Germans captured and transported to the forest the scouts and random residents of Zielonka and then executed them.

It was one of the first mass executions carried out by the occupants.

The monument consists of two walls and a column with a cross on the middle. On the walls there are the national emblem of Poland, the virtuti militari cross and two tables - one with names of the victims and the other with the words of ROTA.


[PL] Pomnik upamietnia wydarzenia z 11 listopada 1939 r., z poczatków okupacji hitlerowskiej. Kilkoro harcerzy rozwiesilo w Zielonce plakaty ze slowami "ROTY" Marii Konopnickiej. W odwecie Niemcy ujeli i wywiezli do lasu harcerzy oraz przypadkowych mieszkanców Zielonki, a nastepnie dokonali na nich egzekucji.

Byla to jedna z pierwszych masowych egzekucji przeprowadzonych przez okupantów.

Pomnik sklada sie z dwóch scian i kolumny z krzyzem na srodku. Na scianach znajduje sie godlo panstwowe Polski, krzyz Virtuti Militari oraz dwie tablice - jedna z nazwiskami ofiar, a druga ze slowami ROTY.
