The Trophy Teresa Herrera is a summer tournament of football that has been played since 1946 in La Coruna , Galicia ( Spain ). He is the dean of the Summer Trophies held in Spanish territory, and therefore is considered one of the most prestigious friendly tournaments in the world due to the highest category of the teams that have participated in its history.

The current trophy was made by the traditional Malde Jewelry which has amalgamated in its design all the tradition of the old Galician goldsmith. Before the current design it had another five previous ones. Its size is one of its main peculiarities, being the previous one made through a fusion of Galician jewelry and Compostela silverware that, originally, required nine hundred kilos of silver and twenty of gold and in which more than 55,000 hours of work were used. Starting with the twenty-fourth edition, another was produced according to the new times, but in which a lot of work was also used with around 2,400 hours, more than thirty-two kilos of silver and more than seven of gold.

In the beginning, the tournament arose as an idea to raise funds for the most disadvantaged, hence its name, Teresa Herrera , benefactor of the poor. Since its first edition, the trophy has been contested by the best teams in the world at all times. The format, which was a single match at the beginning, became a semi-final tournament in 1964, with four teams. In 2003 and 2005 the format was triangular. The matches are played at the Riazor stadium for two days in the second half of August, the trophy being on the poster for the La Coruña festivities, with the annual participation of the local team, Deportivo de La Coruña.. After several years in which the trophy was organized by the City Council of La Coruña , in 2000 the Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña took over the organization, considerably worsening the level of the participating clubs. In 2013 the women 's category of the Teresa Herrera Trophy was established .

In 2018, Athletic Club beat Deportivo de La Coruña in the final , both in the women's and men's modalities, proclaiming itself the winner of the tournament twice. The trophy awarded to its women's team, significantly smaller than the one awarded to the men's team, was controversial that year.

Please take a photo of the award and describe your experience. If it is particularly large trophy or cup include a photo with yourself for scale.

Special note regarding schools: Public secondary schools are public places, and they often include public displays of trophies, medals and cups; however, security concerns might make it difficult to visit these locations at certain times. The best time to visit is probably during an athletic competition. The trophy case is very often adjacent to the gymnasium, and it would be very easy to photograph the trophies at such times. Alternately, you may visit during the school day. Respect school policy and sign in at the office as appropriate. You might explain that you heard that there was a national championship trophy on display somewhere in the school and you would like to photograph it. The secretary will likely direct you down the correct hallway, pleased as punch that people still care about that old championship.
