The "Diving Lady" neon sign at the Starlite Motel in Mesa is sufficiently famous to rate entries on "Roadside Attraction" web sites. After the sign was severely damaged by a storm in 2010, the city funded the restoration of the sign and waived zoning restrictions to permit the animated sign to return. Larry Graham, owner of Graham's Neon, performed the restoration; he had been taught by the man who originally built that sign. You can read more in this news article.
