The gargoyle is attached to the platform on the front side of De Waag.

The platform was built in 1643. The platform of De Waag is richly decorated with reliefs, decorative edges and sculptures of sandstone, such as
the gargoyle in the middle and the different lions along the stairs and on the balustrade.

De Waag (architectural style is late Gothic, with the exception of the vestibule which is in Renaissance style) is an important building in the history of
Deventer. It is built from the stones of the 2 forts Morgenster and Altena of the Duke of Gelre, which at the time were on the other side of the IJssel.
