Under the title Jip en Janneke, Annie M.G. Schmidt produced a large number of short children's stories in the 1950s, which appeared as weekly episodes in the daily newspaper Het Parool.
On September 13, 1952, Het Parool published the first Jip-en-Janneke story, in which Janneke is Jip's new girl next door. Every Jip-en-Janneke story was written by Schmidt in a matter of minutes in the noisy editorial room of Het Parool. The last story appeared on September 7, 1957.
The stories are about the daily lives of two neighboring children, Jip and Janneke. The dog Takkie and the cat Siepie are important secondary figures. Many of the stories take place in or around the home of one of the two children.

Fiep was born in Zaltbommel, therefore the Jip and Janneke statue on the Waalkade.
Onder de titel Jip en Janneke schreef Annie M.G. Schmidt in de jaren 1950 een groot aantal korte kinderverhalen, die als wekelijkse afleveringen verschenen in het dagblad Het Parool.
Onder de titel Jip en Janneke, Annie M.G. Schmidt produceerde in de jaren vijftig een groot aantal korte kinderverhalen, die wekelijks in het dagblad Het Parool verschenen.
Op 13 september 1952 publiceerde Het Parool het eerste Jip-en-Jannekeverhaal, waarin Janneke het nieuwe buurmeisje is van Jip. Elk Jip-en-Jannekeverhaal werd door Schmidt in luttele minuten geschreven in het rumoerige redactielokaal van Het Parool. Het laatste verhaal verscheen op 7 september 1957.
De verhaaltjes gaan over het dagelijks leven van twee buurkinderen, Jip en Janneke. De hond Takkie en de poes Siepie zijn belangrijke nevenfiguren. Veel van de verhaaltjes spelen zich af in of rond het huis van een van de twee kinderen.
