" Les justices de paix sont des constructions publiques peu fréquentes car cette institution juridique de proximité, instituée en France en 1790, fut supprimée en 1958.
Celle de Lamentin, réalisée par l'architecte Ali Tur, accueille la police municipale et l'école de musique. L'édifice, en béton armé, est construit selon un plan carré et comprend un soubassement, un rez-de-chaussée et un étage.
Il a la particularité de présenter une entrée en angle, mise en scène avec un emmarchement en partie hors-oeuvre. On retrouve, dans cet ensemble, le langage architectural propre à Ali Tur : poteaux ronds, oeils-de-boeuf, emmarchements soignés, auvents, ouvertures hautes et étroites. "
