"Le Modern Hôtel a été commandé en 1902 par un industriel, propriétaire des moulins Ferbus.
Il a édifié par l'architecte Émile François de Braine-le-Comte et construit par l'entrepreneur Bouillon.
Il fait l'objet d'un classement au titre des monuments historiques depuis le 25 août 1980.
L'établissement est exploité depuis 1912 par la famille Sciot qui, depuis trois générations, a veillé à maintenir intact le patrimoine architectural. De café-brasserie à l'origine, il a été transformé en hôtel pour redevenir simple restaurant, les étages n'ayant plus vocation d'accueillir les touristes.
Cet hôtel et brasserie-restaurant est le seul restaurant de Belgique francophone à présenter une architecture Art nouveau (le restaurant De Ultieme Hallucinatie de Bruxelles étant en fait un bâtiment éclectique ayant reçu une décoration Art nouveau de Paul Hamesse).
Sa façade, faite de briques rouges et de pierre bleue, est de style « Art nouveau géométrique ».
À la demande du client, la pierre bleue de Soignies devait y jouer un rôle important.
La façade principale est ornée de deux immenses baies vitrées circulaires encadrées chacune d'un arc outrepassé en pierre bleue. Une baie similaire orne le pignon de la façade d'angle qui est surmonté d'un couronnement en fer forgé.
À l'intérieur, on admirera les lustres et le balcon en fer forgé de style « Art nouveau floral » qui accueillait les musiciens lors des fêtes."

"The Modern Hotel was commissioned in 1902 by an industrialist, owner of the Ferbus mills.
It was built by the architect Émile François de Braine-le-Comte and constructed by the contractor Bouillon.
It has been classified as a historic monument since 25 August 1980.
The establishment has been operated since 1912 by the Sciot family, who have taken care to keep the architectural heritage intact for three generations. Originally a café-brasserie, it has been transformed into a hotel and is now a simple restaurant, as the upper floors are no longer intended to welcome tourists.
This hotel and brasserie-restaurant is the only restaurant in French-speaking Belgium to feature Art Nouveau architecture (the restaurant De Ultieme Hallucinatie in Brussels is in fact an eclectic building with Art Nouveau decoration by Paul Hamesse).
Its façade, made of red bricks and blue stone, is in the "geometric Art Nouveau" style.
At the client's request, the blue stone of Soignies was to play an important role.
The main facade is decorated with two huge circular bay windows, each framed by a blue stone horseshoe arch. A similar bay window adorns the gable of the corner facade, which is topped by a wrought iron crown.
Inside, one can admire the chandeliers and the wrought-iron balcony in the « Art nouveau floral » style that used to welcome musicians during the festivities."
