Vuurvogel - Emmen, Sandurdreef Parc Sandur - Figurative Public Sculpture on Waymarking.com

Aan de Sandurdreef bij de Grote Rietplas in Emmen staat een kunstwerk van kunstenaar Cornelis Huisman. De Vuurvogel is een fabeldier .
De Vuurvogel is gemaakt van plaatstaal en bestaat uit een vuurrode vogel die met de snavel balanceert op een paal met zwarte en witte banden.
De vogel fungeert als windwijzer. Halverwege de paal is een windroos aangebracht. De hoogte van het geheel is 9,5 m, de spanwijdte 10,5 m. Het gewicht is 2250 kg, hetgeen het draaien van de vogel niet belemmert.

In 1998 besloot de Rotaryclub van Emmen de gemeente een kunstwerk aan te bieden. Na een prijsvraag kreeg Cornelis Huisman de opdracht zijn idee om te zetten in een kunstwerk. In de jaren 1999 en 2000 werkte hij eraan.

Op 28 juni 2002 kreeg het kunstwerk een plaats bij de parkeerplaats van het nieuwe gedeelte van het Dierenpark Emmen. In 2008 besloot de gemeente Emmen dat nieuwe gedeelte uit te breiden en de dierentuin in zijn geheel daarheen te verplaatsen. Ook het stukje grond waarop de Vuurvogel stond was nodig voor de dierentuin in zijn nieuwe opzet. Daarom werd besloten het kunstwerk te verplaatsen naar Parc Sandur, een wijk die nog geen kunstwerk had.

Op 1 oktober 2014 werd de Vuurvogel weggehaald voor een opknapbeurt en op 18 maart 2015 herplaatst in Parc Sandur, aan de oever van de Grote Rietplas. Een wandelpad rond de plas heeft de naam Het Vuurvogelpad gekregen



On the “Sandurdreef” near the lake “Grote Rietplas” in the city of Emmen there is artwork made by Cornelis Huisman. The Phoenix is a fabulous animal.
The Phoenix (Dutch name of this artwork is “Vuurvogel”) is made of sheet steel and consists of a crimson bird that balances with its beak on a pole with black and white bands.
The bird acts as a weather vane. A compass rose has been applied halfway up the pole. The height of the whole is 9.5 m, the wingspan 10.5 m. The weight is 2250 kg, which is no problem when the bird is turning.

In 1998 the Rotary Club of the city Emmen decided to offer the municipality a artwork. After a competition, Cornelis Huisman was commissioned to convert his idea into a work of art. In the years 1999 and 2000 he worked on it.

On June 28, 2002, the artwork was placed at the parking lot of the new part of the Emmen Zoo. In 2008, the municipality of Emmen decided to expand that new part and move the zoo as a whole there. The piece of land on which the Phoenix stood was also needed for the zoo in its new design. That is why it was decided to move the artwork to Parc Sandur, a neighborhood that hasn’t any artwork.

On October 1, 2014, the “Vuurvogel” was removed for a facelift and on March 18, 2015 relocated in Parc Sandur, on the banks of the lake “Grote Rietplas”. A walking path around the lake has been given the name “Het Vuurvogelpad”
