Our Lady of Lourdes Church has a history dating from 1923 when Father Joseph H. Farran was sent by The Most Reverend John J. McCort to establish a parish in the western section of Altoona to serve the needs of the 225 Catholic families. There were several buildings in the neighborhood utilized as the church before this Brick church was built in 1960
