In het jaar 1312 werd de basis gelegd voor de devotie tot Onze Lieve Vrouw ter Nood Gods op de Molenberg. Deze openbare bidplaats bevindt zich op het hoogste punt in het Land van Maas en Waal. Typerend voor die tijd was dat een bedevaartsoord ook een kruisweg hoorde te hebben. Rondom de veldkapel (vandaar de naam Kapelberg) was reeds een eenvoudige kruisweg aangelegd, maar een meer solide kwam er tussen 1945 en 1949. De tegeltableaus in de staties zijn gemaakt door de bekende kunstenaar Jac Maris. Statie dertien (Jezus wordt van het kruis afgenomen) week echter af van de andere staties en is niet door Maris vervaardigd. Het betrof een kruis op een kleine rotsberg (Calvarieberg symboliserend) met een beeld van Maria daaronder. Door invloeden van buitenaf was deze statie als snel toe aan vervanging. Maris' assistente Els Tervoort heeft toen in de stijl van de andere staties de huidige dertiende statie ontworpen.
De tegeltableaus zijn gevat in een huisje van bakstenen. Voor elke statie is een bankje geplaatst om te bidden. De tocht langs de kruiswegen neemt je mee door een mooi bos rondom de Kapelberg. Het laatste deel van de kruisweg klimt steil. De weg wordt dus steeds zwaarder.

In the year 1312 the foundation was laid for the devotion to Our Lady of Distress on the Molenberg. This public place of worship is located at the highest point in the Land van Maas en Waal. Typical of that time was that a place of pilgrimage should also have a Way of the Cross. A simple Way of the Cross had already been built around the field chapel (hence the name Kapelberg), but a more solid one was built between 1945 and 1949. The tile pictures in the stations were made by the famous artist Jac Maris. Station thirteen (Jesus is taken from the cross), however, deviated from the other stations and was not made by Maris. It concerned a cross on a small rocky mountain (symbolizing Calvary) with a statue of Mary underneath. Due to outside influences, this station soon needed to be replaced. Maris' assistant Els Tervoort designed the current thirteenth station in the style of the other stations.
The tile pictures are set in a brick house. A bench has been placed in front of each station to pray. The tour along the Stations of the Cross takes you through a beautiful forest around the Kapelberg. The last part of the Way of the Cross climbs steeply. So the road is getting harder and harder.
