The congregation used a chapel formerly owned by Independent Methodists from 1821 until 1876.

As the congregation expanded it was decided a larger chapel was needed and this building was erected in 1876. Its architect was Thomas Howdrill and it continued to be used until the Methodist Union.

From the 1940s it was owned by various clothing factories until it was taken over by SLP College in 1991, an independent, co-educational performing arts college.
