"ST. LUCY PARISH CELEBRATING 100 YEARS IN CAMPBELL 1915 - 2015
THIS STATUE OF ST. LUCY (283-304 AD) DEPOTS HER HOLDING AN OIL LAMP FOR LIGHT. ST. LUCY WAS BORN IN SYRACUSE, ITALY. SHE IS ONE OF EIGHT WOMEN, WHO ALONG WITH THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY ARE COMMEMORATED BY NAME IN THE CANON OF THE MASS. HER FEAST DAY IS CELEBRATED ON DECEMBER 13TH. "LUCIA" IN ITALIAN MEANS "LIGHT". ST. LUCY IS OFTEN DEPICTED HOLDING A PLATE WITH HER EYES ON IT. TRADITION STATES THAT HER OWN BEAUTIFUL EYES WERE REMOVED ON HER WAY TO MARTYRDOM, YET HER SIGHT WAS RESTORED. HER PATRONAGE IS TO THE BLIND AND THOSE WHO HAVE EYE TROUBLE."
