Toevlucht is een opvang voor ongedocumenteerde mannen in Utrecht. We zijn gestart in december 2013. ‘Onder protest’ omdat er voor deze mannen geen slaapplaats was en we vonden het onmenselijk dat zij op straat moesten slapen. We wilden hen een opvang bieden tijdens de wintermaanden.
Met steun van veel kerken en andere betrokkenen en ongelooflijk veel inzet van vrijwilligers is dat gelukt.
Zelfs met de inzet van hun eigen nachtrust, omdat we moesten waken, hebben vrijwilligers dit mogelijk gemaakt.
Het was heel bijzonder dat we steeds weer op het juiste moment de benodigde middelen en inzet kregen!
Na een demonstratie in mei 2014 op het stadhuisplein heeft de gemeente Utrecht haar steun toegezegd.
We zijn verhuisd naar een locatie van het Leger des Heils. Toevlucht blijft, zo lang dat nodig is en mogelijk blijft, opvang bieden aan deze mannen zonder andere verblijfsmogelijkheden.

Toevlucht is a shelter for undocumented men in Utrecht. We started in December 2013. "Under protest" because there was no place to sleep for these men and we found it inhumane that they had to sleep on the street. We wanted to offer them shelter during the winter months.
This was achieved with the support of many churches and other stakeholders and an incredible amount of effort from volunteers.
Even with the commitment of their own night's sleep, because we had to watch, volunteers made this possible.
It was very special that we always received the necessary resources and commitment at the right time!
After a demonstration in May 2014 on the town hall square, the municipality of Utrecht has pledged its support.
We have moved to a location of the Salvation Army. Refuge will continue to provide shelter to these men for as long as necessary and possible without other accommodation options.
