[FIN] Signum rakennuksen seinässä on ruotsinkielinen muistolaatta joka kertoo rakennuksen olleen sotasairaalana vuosina 1939-1945. Suomessa alkoi talvisota vuonna 1939. Sen jälkeen ollut jatkosota piti huolen että sotasairaalat saivat toimia vielä monta vuotta.

Arkkitehti Theodor Granstedtin suunnittelemat rakennukset Signum ja Rosetta valmistuivat vuonna 1899 kuurojen koulun käyttöön. Talot siirtyivät Turun yliopiston käyttöön 1970-luvulla. Tuolloin talot remontoitiin ja niille annettiin uudet nimet. Nykyinen Signum nimettiin tuolloin Didacticumiksi ja Rosetta Phoenixiksi. Ennen vuosina 2003-2004 tehtyä peruskorjausta Didacticum ja Phoenix toimivat mm. humanististen aineiden evakkopaikkana. Kääntämisen ja tulkkauksen keskus muutti taloon remontin valmistuttua. Uuden toiminnan myötä nimet Signum ja Rosetta otettiin käyttöön. Rakennukset tunnettiin myös kuurojenkouluna. Vuodesta 1899 aina vuoteen 1980 koulu toimi nykyisellä Yliopistonmäellä. Sotavuosiksi opettajat ja osa opiskelijoista joutuivat Kylmäkoskelle evakuoiduiksi. Sotasairaalasta ei ole löytynyt juurikaan tietoa tai vanhoja kuvia.

[EN] There is a Swedish plaque on the wall of the Signum building, which says that the building was a war hospital from 1939-1945. In Finland, the Winter War began in 1939. Soon after that begun Continuation War and same hospital was needed.

The Signum and Rosetta buildings, designed by architect Theodor Granstedt, were completed in 1899 for use by the school for the deaf. The houses were transferred to the University of Turku in the 1970s. At that time, the houses were renovated and given new names. The current Signum was then named Didacticum and Rosetta Phoenix. Prior to the renovation in 2003-2004, Didacticum and Phoenix operated e.g. as a place of evacuation for humanities studies. The Center for Translation and Interpretation moved into the house after the renovation was completed. With the new operation, the names Signum and Rosetta were introduced.
The buildings were also known as the School for the Deaf. From 1899 until 1980, the school operated on the current Yliopistonmäki. During the war years, teachers and some students had to be evacuated to Kylmäkoski. Little information or old pictures have been found in the war hospital. Turku had several war hospitals because it was enough far from frontline to have operations safely and house professional staff. Turku had also army militarybase, some navy and airfield.
