Deze kanocache is uitgezet in opdracht van de gemeente Dordrecht en in samenwerking met Biesboschcentrum Dordrecht, ter gelegenheid van de Week van Ons Water in mei 2017. Een ontdekkingstocht door de kreken en langs de eilandjes van dit prachtige natuurgebied.

De rijke fauna en flora van de Biesbosch moet je vooral vanaf het water ontdekken. Dit is het leefgebied van beschermde diersoorten als de ijsvogel en de bever. Wie weet, vang je wel een glimp op van deze bijzondere dieren. In ieder geval zul je tijdens deze tocht hun sporen ontdekken. Met deze avontuurlijke kanocache beleef je de Biesbosch van heel dichtbij. Je komt langs wilgenbossen, weilanden, begroeide oevers en beverburchten.

De kanocache voert over kreken met getijdenwerking. Het verschil tussen hoog- en laagwater bedraagt maar liefst 70 centimeter. Bij laag water is het waterniveau te laag en kom je met je kano vast te zitten. Dat wordt dan moddervechten. Niemand zit te wachten op een noodgedwongen overnachting op een van de griendeilanden, dus check de waterstanden, bijvoorbeeld op de site van getij.nl.

Bij het Biesboschcentrum kan je kano's huren. Het is ook mogelijk om zelf je kano mee te nemen en vanaf de steiger te vertrekken.

This canoe cache was commissioned by the municipality of Dordrecht and in collaboration with Biesboschcentrum Dordrecht, on the occasion of the Week of Ons Water in May 2017. A discovery tour through the creeks and along the islands of this beautiful nature reserve.

You should discover the rich fauna and flora of the Biesbosch especially from the water. This is the habitat of protected animal species such as the kingfisher and the beaver. Who knows, you might catch a glimpse of these special animals. In any case, you will discover their traces during this tour. With this adventurous canoe cache you will experience the Biesbosch up close. You will pass willow forests, meadows, overgrown banks and beaver lodges.

The canoe cache runs over tidal creeks. The difference between high and low water is no less than 70 centimeters. At low tide, the water level is too low and you get stuck with your canoe. That then becomes mud fighting. Nobody is waiting for a forced overnight stay on one of the griende islands, so check the water levels, for example on the getij.nl site.

You can rent canoes at the Biesboschcentrum. It is also possible to bring your own canoe and leave from the jetty.
