Ledston Luck is on the site of a former coal mine that existed between the 1870s and 1986. The landscape was transformed in the 1990s to form a Local Nature Reserve managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in collaboration with Leeds City Council.

It has been found that the best way to manage the site and encourage the largest amount of different species of wild flowers that periods of grazing help in this process.

Sheep, cattle and ponies all help in this process. Although all parts of the reserve are normally open to the public, fencing and marked footpaths control access during those periods of the year when grazing is in active use.

This information board is on one of the marked footpaths on the eastern side of the reserve.
