San Antonio Lion's Club is one of the twelve Texas Founder Lions Clubs. These original twelve Texas Lions Clubs got together in 2017 to commemorate the centennial year of the Lion's Club International, which began in 1917. The San Antonio Lion's Club owns the Lion's Field property at the corner of Broadway and E. Mulberry Ave., adjacent to Brackenridge Park. It is in this Lion's Field property where the rose garden is found.

As part of the celebration of the Lions Club International, the San Antonio Lion's Club mounted a large gray granite plaque onto the west side of an already existing stone base supporting a large white marble lion sculpture. This plaque announces the commemoration of the Lions Club International's centennial and dedicated the area surrounding that west side of the lion sculpture as a rose garden to commemorate the 12 Texas Founding Lions Clubs.

The rose garden, at present, is a bed of miniature rose bushes which bloom in the Spring with yellow blooms. The plaque's title declares the roses are intended as a rose garden to commemorate the 100 years of Lions Club International's service.

The plaque is a large rectangular stone inscribed with text dedicating the centennial and the rose garden, listing the 12 Texas Lions Club Founders and in the middle of the bottom half of the plaque is a large Lions Club International logo. As best as I can represent what is on the the plaque, it states the following:

"Texas Lions Centennial Service Rose Garden
1917 - 2017

Centennial of Lions Clubs International, the Lions of Texas dedicate this rose garden commemoration the service of the twelve Texas Founder Lions Clubs. Our motto "We Serve" reflects the one hundred years of commitment to our communities, our state, our nation and our people in need throughout the world.
