From Alltrails: "Thousand Steps is the mid section of the Standing Stone Trail as the trail ascends Jacks Mountain on SGL 112. Great views along the way and at the end of this hike. It also makes for a great workout as this is a very strenuous hike. It is equivalent to a 1 hour stair master workout. There are plenty of places to rest and look at the great views that this hike has to offer. This is also a geocacher friendly hike."
This hike gains over 900 feet of elevation as you climb hand placed rock steps, 1043 of them to the top of the stair. There is nothing uniform about the steps. Tread and riser vary with each step.
Once at the top of the stairs by following the Standing Stone Trail to the left you will come upon the stone remnants of a Dinky House. Following the trail up and around the house about 1/2 mile you can pick up some views of the valley below. Including Mapleton Depot, Norfolk Southern Pittsburgh Line, the Juniata River, and the William Penn Highway (US 22).
