This Peace Pole is at the center of the Peace Labyrinth of the Monterey
Methodist Church.
The plaque at the beginning of the Labyrinth reads as follows:
Welcome to the Peace Labyrinth
This Peace Labyrinth is a gift of the Community of Christ to the Marina
Community. As a spiritual tool it is personal and thus appropriate for
anyone. The labyrinth can be the bridge to help you get in touch with
yourself and the spiritual realities of life. Here is one of many ways to
walk the labyrinth.
Preparation
The Peace Labyrinth walk begins here and ends here. There is a bench
where you may wish to contemplate the walk. Allow yourself to find your
own pace during the walk.
Going In
Your walk to the center can be a time of releasing, letting go. You may
pass or meet others on the two-way path. Do what feels natural when you
encounter others on the path.
Staying in the Center
At the center take time to rest and receive inspiration. The Peace Pole
stands at the center as a focus of our common need and desire for peace on our
world. There is a listing of countries by day of the month in the center
for whom you may wish to pray.
Returning to the World
When you are ready, retrace your path out of the labyrinth. This can be
symbolic of returning to the world with new awareness of self and others.
Reflection and Thanksgiving
At the conclusion of your walk it is appropriate to reflect on the experience
and give thanks for the experience.
