This fire department is located in a one-story metal building with a gabled roof. A metal overhang runs along the front of the building, over the six overhead vehicle doors. The name of the station is shown on a metal sign along the edge of the overhang.

The fire station is located at 125 E. Broadway, just east of the police station, library and city hall, on the east edge of downtown. The department has 23 volunteer firefighters. This fire station, and a second station 5 miles east are under the organization of the Lexington Rural Fire Association. About 220 members fund operations of the fire department. Membership is $50 per year, which gives the resident no charge fire coverage. Non-members will be billed for any services used.
