The North Thompson Museum was opened in 1987 and is in a former BC Forest Service Ranger Station built in 1920, the first Forestry Office. The museum is operated by the Barriere and District Heritage Society with their main focus is preserving local artifacts and archival material about the early history of Barriere and surrounding areas.
The Museum grounds include a Trapper’s Cabin, outdoor shed for antique farm equipment, Livery Stable and a Country Store. A replica of a 1800’s School House opened in 2018.
Inside the main museum is this New Williams Sewing Machine complete with cabinet. This treadle sewing machines was manufactured in the early 1900s by Williams Manufacturing Company. They closed the sewing machine division in 1922.
This New Williams sewing machine is complete with a six drawer wood cabinet and still has the treadle. The decals on the bed, arm and pillar are still nicely visible. Note the heart shaped inspection plate at the top of the pillar which is deeply engraved. Considering that this New Williams sewing machine is over 100 years old, it is still nicely perserved and a rare find.
