The Synagogue is listed in the Reservoir Hill Historic District as a contributing building. The National Register of Historic Places Registration Form states "The Mishkan Israel Congregation hired Stanislaus Russell (the architect of the Shaarei Tfiloh Synagogue) to design a synagogue building to rival the Eutaw Place Temple, but only the first floor was built. It is finished with stucco walls and central pediment"
