This bench with its artistic silhouette backrest can be found in St. Mary de Ballaugh Churchyard.

The bench is made of steel which is painted black and has a wooden slatted seat. The backrest features a representation the leaning gateposts of the old St. Mary de Ballaugh Church which can be found in The Cronk. Between the gateposts is a British Soldier, dress in the uniform of WWI with his head bowed towards a simple cross grave marker.

To the left of the gateposts is a ploughman with single horse pulling a plough which represents the agricultural basis of the Parish of Ballaugh which does not have a strong fishing or maritime tradition.

Below the ploughman is a rectangular metal plaque with the following inscription:
“Presented by Ballaugh Commissioner in November 2018
On behalf of the parishioners of Ballaugh Parish in remembrance of those who fought for their country.
Lest we forget’
