This headstone is for Mary M. Lechefsky, who is buried in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in McKean, Pennsylvania. The headstone only gives the years Mrs. Lechefsky lived, without the months or days. It states that she lived from 1886 to 1989. I could not find any additional information about her via an internet search, and so am unsure whether she was 102 years old or 103 years old when she died. Mary is buried next to her husband, Joseph S. Lechefsky, and who died in 1930. Thus, she was a widow for 59 years! May she rest in peace.

When Mary was born in 1886, Grover Cleveland was president of the United States, Victoria was Queen of the United Kingdom, and Pius IX was pope. That same year, Cleveland dedicated the Statue of Liberty in New York. Throughout her life many important national and world events occurred, including the World Wars, the rise of Communism in places like the Soviet Union, and the Great Depression, as well as many significant technological changes, such as the inventions of the automobile, telephone, and computers. In the year she died, George H.W. Bush became president and the Berlin Wall was taken down. It's amazing how different the world was when she was born as compared to when she died.
