Signage at cemetery entrance:
"In the spring and summer of 1865 in two groups. about 120 men, women and children, members of a Mormon sect called Cutlerites from Manti, Iowa, settled on the north shore of a lake they named Clitherall. Chauncy Whiting wrote "Along, and far from friends and relatives - the country a wilderness and their neighbors the Indians - this little band of pioneers pitched their tents, and, ere the sun had reached the western horizon, laid the foundation for the first permanent settlement in Otter Tail County." When death required, this high spot was chosen as their burial ground. They would call it Mount Pleasant."
