"A new interactive reading activity is now a permanent feature in San Ramon Central Park. The StoryWalk® takes pages from popular books and displays them on aluminum stands along the park pathway. The 20-station project allows families to enjoy a good book and read together while spending time in a beautiful outdoor environment. A new book will be displayed four times a year.

The StoryWalk® project is a partnership with the Rotary Club of San Ramon, the City of San Ramon the San Ramon Library Foundation and the Contra Costa County Library.

“StoryWalk® is a fun way to bring families together to promote both early literacy and a love for the outdoors,” said Elayne Pedley, San Ramon’s Youth Services Librarian. “Each book choice will be interesting, well-reviewed stories with quality illustrations.”

The Central Park StoryWalk® begins near the front entrance of the San Ramon Community Center at Central Park, wraps around the pathway near the play structure, ending at the Community Center’s rear fountain.

Library staff will choose titles for the City of San Ramon’s Library Advisory Committee to consider and approve. Stories will be selected with a focus on great illustrations and subject matter that include at least some of the following concepts: nature/parks, physical activity, literacy, kindness, diversity, family, or humor.

The second book is currently on display. “Raj and the Best Day Ever,” by Sebastian Braun, is a picture book about the relationship between and father and son.

"The StoryWalk™ Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition (VBPC) and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.” " (visit link)
